Shanxi Medical University located in Taiyuan, the capital city of Shanxi Province, has a 104 years of history.Shanxi Medical University was founded in 1919 in the ancient city of Bingzhou. After the founding of the People’s Republic of China, the school entered a new period of development. In 1953, the school was established independently and renamed as Shanxi Medical College. In 1996, it was renamed as Shanxi Medical University.

Our university is the third batch of doctoral degree authorization units in China, the first batch of doctoral degree authorization units in Shanxi Province and the first batch of master’sand bachelor’sdegree authorization units in China. Our school is one of the universities supported by the National Basic Ability Construction for Central and Western Universities Project and among the first batch of pilot universities with Excellent Doctor Education and Training Program.We are also honored with High-level Public Health Construction University, National Innovation and Entrepreneurship Construction Units.

At present, there are 22,201 full-time students, including 14,518 undergraduates, 6,447 master’s students, 758 doctoral students and 478 international students.Since 2019, our students have won the gold medal of the main track project of China International “Internet +” College Students’ Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition for three consecutive years, and they are the only medical undergraduate university in China to win this honor. Since its establishment, the university has trained more than 140,000 medical and health professionals represented by Zhao Xuefang, the winner of the first “Bethune Medal” and “The Good Doctor of the People”, Xu Jianguo and Tian Zhigang, academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and Yang Hui and Zhang Yinghui, winners of the Nightingale Medal.

Theuniversityhas a good momentum in scientific research development. In 2023, the total scientific and technological funding reached 300 million yuan, with 389 provincial-level or above scientific and technological programs undertaken, including one major project of the national key R&D plan, 51 projects from the National Natural Science Foundation (including one major project of regional joint fund and two key projects of regional joint fund for integration), and two projects from the Ministry of Education’s humanities and social sciences program. In addition, 4,104 research papers were published, including 1,923 SCI-indexed papers, 530 patents were granted, and 26 provincial and ministerial-level scientific and technological awards were received.
